Lon, Have you noticed that in the Copper ad for the Stinger Board it states that you do not have to remove the speaker. I can't imagine how you could leave it in. Mine arrived today and I plan to install it in a Cobra 148gtl! Hope I do a good job and it works as good as yours does! It is very nice looking and well built indeed! Man I am not looking forward to working with that micro coax. Bet that was fun yeah? Heat sink compound is a great idead, thanks. Will let the board know how it goes once installed! Happy Turkey Day Lon and Shirley and thanks for an awesome review! Kenny cef491 |

Hotwire, I'm anxious to see what the results of your install is as well, as mine was a far cry from what Lon's review showed out of his. |

747, OK I'll let you know. I noticed on the invoice I got with it reads KL-203 board. So I imagine its nothing much more than the insides of a KL-203. The Copper ad for the KL-203 states 100 watts max for AM and 200 watts max SSB. What are the output #'s for your install? What make and model radio did you use? Also, what input wattages did you expieriment with? My Cobra 148gtl is the newer china built models but that should not matter. It has a 2 watt deadkey and about a 20 watt swing. I wonder if 20 watts swing is to much. By the way the 148 has been what some people call supertalked, super modded, premium tuned. It has the upgraded 1969 final and just about every mod for crystal clean loud modulation has been done. So really the only thing I should probably do is turn down the swing to around 10 watts max. Lon says he drives it with 10 watts swing and it gets the side of the radio case warm so you would think 20 watts would really get things hot! Got all the tools ready but need to go buy a tube of heat sink compound and a new fine tip for my soldering iron. Probably do the install on Turkey Day or the day after depending on amount of deep fried turkey overdose in my belly I will be suffering from. 73 kenny cef491 |

It's a Virage VX-129CN 2 watt dead key, swinging 18 with amp off... After turning amp on.... 4 watts dead key... 60 watts swing... Check out the corrections to the review - they were put up today! |

747, So your driving the Stinger with an 18 watt swing. Did you try a lower swing? Also does it get very hot at 18 watts and how clear is your audio? I wonder why the amp deadkey is so low? You sure are getting a big swing! Well hey, some of the best radios out there are setup that way. |

Yep - tried it with a 10-12 watt swing... If you look at the updated review, this isn't far from what Lon found when he re-tested... He just added the updates yesterday. |

Those "updated" numbers do sound much more realistic. Thats just about what my friend gets out of his KL203 amp mounted atop his 148GTL. I would have expected 80w max AM without overdoing it. Its a nice little booster that makes a difference. Should make for a nice internal mod without stressing the radio with all those other mods out there. Another way to look at it is this would make a great modulator/driver for a bigger amp without having it (externally) inline! I wanna see your review Mr Wire! Happy Thanksgiving! Hank |

im putting a stinger in a cobra 19 dx IV lolol. its doin about 2-12 watts now that i screwed w the insides what little there is .... lottsa space for a tiny chassis radio. case is plastic so no point in mounting the stinger board in the normal manner. it will be fun. plus all peeps will see is a brand new cobra 19 ultra supreme deluxe classic ra-did-io and think its nothing....till i key that puppy up. tested it with my kl-203 and keyed 75 swung 150 w/mod. whens the last time u saw one of those plastic cobra 19s do that lolool. |

i retract the previous statement. the cobra 19 self destructed. it started having weird issues like running without the ground wire connected??? it expired shortly thereafter. i returned it and got another one. THIS one had very low mod and high wattage and wouldnt turn down. therefore i am concluding cobras quality control is negligable for their bottom of the line and gonna try a uniden 510. ;) |

ok. wound up getting a NOS midland 77-160 roadmax. this radio is swing stunted untill tuned to about 5 watt deadkey then it wakes up and swings to 25 watts i am running this into (temp) the kl-203 amp and soon permanantly the stinger 203. dont know how long if ever if it blows up but it seems to key 100 watts swing 175 at this point. obviously this is above the recommended input so wish me luck! i may soon have a smoking pile of melted stinger board but for now works killer and gets AWSOME audio reports....help me lon im power hungry and canmt contain myself LOL! |

well.......that bombed..... radio didint quite have enough room (small chassis) and it distinctly did NOT like stinger board.... only manged to get w 5-15 in 20 swinging 100 out with great audio but lots of heat ie crammed in to small radio....got fed up and took it back out.... hopefully selling to a friend that has a cobra 146 with plenty of space.... guess ill have to get external..... oh well it was fun while it lasted.... |
