I have 2 of these amps and i hook it up to a Cobra 148GTL on AM it does 2 watts on SSB it does 12 watts and the amp gives me 35 watts on SSB and 25 on AM and this little sucker works great it is a great amp for the Driver that needs the power of an export but slip seats alot and dont want to leave that expensive radio inside the truck when your inside a stop unloading this amp and a cheap radio is the way to go in fact my brother in law bought one as well for his Cobra 19 as we were told we cannot adjust power with this radio so he hooked it up to the radio in his truck and he swings 30 watts on AM of course its a little high power into the amp 4 watts but what else can you do? it works and hes happy |

Copperfan, I recommend keeping the input wattage to the KL40 at 1 1/4 watts deadkey. A single final radio will generate more than enough input to drive the KL40 to its max potential. In my opinion a dual final radio is too hard on the KL40 and with outputs of dual final radios in the 25-35 watt range, the benefit of using one with a KL40 is nonexistent. Yep. With a export radio and a KL60 peak will be a genuine 60w and rms about 20 (depending on radio's rms). I would not exceed 20w carrier out of the KL60 so adjust radio accordingly. |

I have read that the input wattage should be 1.5 watts. The paperwork states 1 to 4 watts. Why drop your radio power to 1.5 watts. Will the stated recommmended wattage damage the unit, or is it safe to assume it will operate properly? |

I purchased the Kl 40 and it has operated exactly the way the review said. The only difference the locals have noticed is my modulation goes up some when I turn it on. And that I am receiving better signal reports when talking distance. I intend to order a Kl 60 next. Great produces for the cheap, cheap... hi hi 73 |

I own a Keep Cherokee (No room) and we run ot Mexico into the Mission Field. Tje kl-40 allows me to hide the radio om such a place as I can use a very small Uniden Pro 520 (Modulation opened up) and swing 40w with the flick of a switch (when needed). Not for DX'ers, well ok but it makes my Uniden walk tall. |
