Microphones in General
When you get ready to purchase your new CB radio from Copper Electronics , did you ever wonder why so many different microphones or which one would work out the best for you ? Or what the differences are in laymen's terms ? Or how about wanting that screaming audio sound that will out perform the guy down the street but you flat out just don't know which one will do the best job . These along with many questions are about what I am going to try to explain .
In general there are three types of microphones . The POWER microphone , the STANDARD microphone and the NOISE CANCELING microphone . Now before we get into it you are probably wanting to know why I have not included roger beep , echo , reverb , noise toy and several other type microphones in the above and the answer is simple....They are all options that go with the standard three examples I gave you .
Before you select a new microphone you need to ask yourself a few questions . Is it noisy where my radio is ? Am I a light talker ? How much audio do I really want ? Am I base or mobile ? If you are the typical CB'er that wants the " banging " audio and you are running a base station then the POWER microphone is for you . A Silver Eagle , Night Eagle and a number of other power microphones that are desk type will work .If you are in a mobile then you would want a Astatic M6-B or a similar microphone that has the same amplification that the big base microphones have except that they are in a smaller case for easy usage . Believe me I have seen people that use a Silver Eagle , or a Night Eagle in the car and there is NO gain over a standard Astatic power hand microphone . Now if you are in a truck or drive a vehicle that has a noisy background all the time then a noise canceling microphone is for you because it will help eliminate all the things other that what you want to be sent to the transmitter . The standard microphone with no amplification is for either replacement on a stock radio or it is for granny to talk to her son over the hill .
All the other features such as Echo , Reverb , Noise toys and all the other stuff you see in advertisements come only AFTER the fact that you determine which type of microphone from the three categories described above . I use a Sedelta Echo Master myself and I love it......... |
