Lon, You didn't state the selectivity in SSB mode in the review. also what is the word on the build in Speech processor. Is it in or not? Do you ever actually test to see if radio meets the specs you have outlined? Not a critiscm but just wondering... Mine is on order but it has a long way to go before it gets here! |

Dd18, WELCOME TO THE COPPER FORUM! I knew I forgot to add something but it is there now. SSB 4.2kHz (-6dB) / 8.5 kHz (-60dB) And Yes it does meet or exceed all the specs I have posted in the Review or it would be listed under the CONS in the review. If you read my other Reviews you will find that I go far above and beyond the normal standards in testing and doing the reviews. Also in the Review you will Read under PROS that it does have the Top Gun Modulator installed. Hope this helps, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

Lon, Isn't 8.5 khz @ 60db down a bit wide on SSB or doesn't it make any difference in real life? Other magnums are rated at 7khz for 60db down. Have they used a different filter setup in this radio? Other than channel guard are their other filters available to 'tighten' the selectivity like we can install in ham radios. I believe these can also serve to increase SSB audio output slightly as well

Dave, It is 8.5 kHz (-60db) This is still the same as the earlier model of the Magnum 257 as well as the MAGNUM S-9 and MAGNUM OMEGA FORCE S-45 radios as well. NOW we need to get you to sign up join our CEF RADIO CLUB and you will be the 1st Member from Indonesia to join. We have 337 members in the USA and a total of 351 CEF Radio Club Members WORLDWIDE. All right....you mean I will be number one! (in Indo that is... :-) ) Had a quick search and didn't see what one has to do to join the CEF radio? With current conditions 11m dx from Indonesia is open to West coast USA short path mornings our time which is evening the day before your time. Where in US is Copper? Can operate 10, 11 and 12 meter bands with log periodic antenna and up to 1kw if required. Off to Nepal with my IC706 in a couple of weeks but would take the Magnum 257 if it arrives in time...some how I doubt it...should have bought from copper....

Jon666, You say (it dont work)? What is not working? I will need to know exactly what is and is not working and if it worked right out off the box when you first put power to it. Did you pay for the tune up and modification or did you do it yourself? Let me know so I can try and be of help. If it did not work right out of the box did you call Copper Customer Service? 1-502-988-8500 and report it? Sorry but the three words (it dont work) just does not give me any information on what is not working or what problems you are having with it. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN

Jon, Did you purchase your Magnum 257 Radio from COPPER? I called Customer Service and they can not find where you ordered one recently or where one was shipped to you or your Zip Code. If you could please e-mail me your Copper Invoice Number that would be a big help. Tech808@copperelectronics.com If you purchased your Radio from Copper I can issue you an RA Number to return it to the Magnum Internationl Service Center. NOTE! I will need to know the Purchase Date, Invoice Number, Serial # and a discription of the problems you are having with it so I can forward the information to the Magnum Service center. If you purchased it elsewhere then you will have to contact them or Magnum for an RA Number. Sam Lewis Owner of RF Limited / Magnum International only allows me to Issue RA Numbers to Copper Customers who have purchased their radios from Copper Electronics. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

Wow i am a bit late in the 257 craze. Using a friends for a bit. Just wanted to compare it to my Hr2510. I painfully admitt i like the magnum better. The audio is more puncy as to about a half dozen radio ops in my area all in various distances away. I prefer the 2510's meter a bit more.Cross channel rejection was compared as i sat of the interstae seeing how much blood the truckers hammered me with, this was about even, maybe the 2510 is a bit tighter but its minimal if any difference. Output wise the Hr2510 is about 42 Pep sideband..Magnum was reading 30pep on the meter.I dont think anyone can go wrong for the price. I am grabbing one when they go off backorder nice small design will fit sweet in my toyota tacoma with limited mounting room. |

Gayle, If you are talking about the Quantity: box showing "1" that means you want to order 1 radio and if you want more then you change it. Lon ~ Tech808 ~ N9CEF CEF#808 ~ CEF HAM#33 ~ CVC#002 10-10 #61493 ~ 10-10 VP#2688 Tech808@copperelectronics.com

Well all, Mr 808 has graciously loaned me his 257 since I got my ticket back in April of this yr. Now at first, I was a little intimidated by this radio as it was kinda different to use...lol. Now this was tuned an all that good stuff by Tech 808 so you know the radio was doin everything it was supposed to! If you look at my cef connections an or dx posts you will see how this radio does. I either use a maco 103 set flat at 25 ft off the ground and or the A99 at 50 ft. The radio has awsome tx and rx! Using the stock mic is the best choice also. Every person I have talked to on 10m thought I was on a HF rig! When I told them I was on the 257, they said it sounded just like a hf rig and not to change or do anything! All in all, I think the 257 is a AWSOME radio The only drawback I see is the channel rejection. The bleed over will kill ya Other than that, the radio is kick butt Allen, Banned from Canada 015 from MI CEF565/ham#243 CVC#38 13AM/LSB N.E. Net Cont. an 10M Asst N. Cont.
