The jumper setting for this is JP1, JP2, JP3 = OFF and JP4 = ON. Export Mode: This mode is pre-set to 8 Bands between 25.615 MHz - 29.205 MHz. The jumper setting for this mode is JP1 = ON JP2 = OFF JP3 = OFF JP4 = ON. Programming Mode: This feature allows the radio to be setup into 8 separate bands, each individually programmed to cover any 40 channel segments you choose between 25.165 - 30.555 MHz. For instance, if you wanted Bands A and B to be setup to cover 25.165 - 26.055 MHz, Band C to be the CB Band 26.965 - 27.405 MHz, then Bands D, E, and F to cover 10 Meters at 28.315 - 29.655 MHz, the “Programming Mode” can be used to set this up. Disconnect the wires from the power source after programming the unit to insure that the CPU (Computer) will reset properly. Set the radio’s Band Selector to position A. Using 2 short bare wires, jump the pins of JP2 and JP4 (JP1 & JP3 = OFF) Notice that the Channel Display now indicates a letter A through L instead of the Channel number. Temporarily short the pins of JP1 on the Channel Board using another short wire. Notice that the Channel Display advances to the next Band Letter each time the pins of JP1 are shorted. Continue advancing the letters on the display until you see the desired band for Position A of the Band Selector. Move the Band selector to position B, and again short the jumper pins of JP1 until you see your choice for Band B. Repeat this for each of the 8 Band positions and when the last is done, move the Jumpers to this order to Lock them into Memory. JP1 = ON JP2, JP3 = OFF JP4 = ON This radio is also capable of covering the entire frequency range between 26.000 MHz - 32.990 MHz in 10 KHz steps or in 5 KHz steps (10 KHz Front Panel = OFF) JP1 = ON JP2 = OFF JP3 - ON JP4 = OFF Tune-Up / Power Tweaks None Required. Everything is already set to the Maximum for you by the factory. Microphone Wiring (For BOTH Microphone Jacks) Pin #1 ~ Ground Pin #2 ~ Microphone Audio Pin #3 ~ Transmit Pin #4 ~ Receive Modifications At the time of my writing this Review I know of No Modifications for this radio. Should any Modifications or Tips become avialiable I will keep you updated. Pros & Cons Pros The MAGNUM S-9 offers a completely re-designed radio with many Features that the previous Omega Force S-45 and S-3 radios did not have. TOP GUN MODULATOR (The NEWEST VERSION & also A MAGNUM EXCLUSIVE) AMT (All Mode Talkback, a Magnum Radio Exclusive) TURBO Digital Echo is a Magnum Radio Exclusive. VARIABLE RF OUTPUT POWER (May be varied from 0 to 40 watts peak in all modes) BLUE LEDS DUAL MICROPHONE 4 Pin Connectors located on Both Sides of the radio. This is a very nice feature and will allow OTR Drivers or others to have two Mics hooked up to the radio at the same time. FINE & COARSE CLARIFIER. The Clarifier shifts both the transmitted and received frequency in all modes. The primary use is for SSB operation. The COR (Coarse) tuning shifts a total of +/- 5 KHz. The FINE tuning shifts a total of +/- 1.5 KHz. The built in frequency counter will read both Coarse and Fine Adjustments. DIMMER LO-MED-HIGH SWITCH: The 3 stage dimmer control allows you to select the proper illumination level for both the SRF Meter and the Blue LED displays. +10kHz-OFF: In the 10 kHz position the frequency is shifted up 10kHz. BAND: The S-9 now has an 8 Band Switch. 6 - DIGIT FREQUENCY COUNTER 2-DIGIT CHANNEL DISPLAY OFF / NB / NB+ SWITCH: This is a nice feature that allows you to have the Noise Blanker OFF or ON and if you move it to the NB+ position it will turn the Frequency Counter OFF and will only display the two digit Channel Display. The S-9 is also equipped with an Automatic HIGH VSWR warning circuit than can be turned ON or OFF. CONS NONE FOUND! FINAL COMMENTS With well over 1000 hours now of this radio being on and used on AM and SSB and FM from a Power Supply and in Mobile Use it far surpasses any of the 100's other radios I have ever tested or used over the years. The Audio Quality and Performance of this radio is far superior to any other radio that I have used. Having 6 different radios set up here at a time I was able to switch between radios and it was always the same. Without anyone knowing which radio I was useing the reports always came back that the New Magnum S-9 was the Loudest and Clearest radio of them all. For several weeks I continued changing to different radios and it never changed they could tell a Major Difference in Modulation and Clarity of the New Magnum S-9 over the other 11 radios that I was using for Comparison. With the New Dual Microphone Jacks I was able to have a Silver Salute Desk Microphone and a DM-452 Hand Microphone hooked up at all times for testing. With switching between Microphones to try and fool them it made no difference. The Receive is also Excellent with Very Good / Clear Loud Audio at all times. MAGNUM INTERNATIONAL did not just Soup up the New S-9 from the OMEGA FORCE S-45 or the MAGNUM S-3 Radios. The MAGNUM S-9 Radio has been Completely Re-designed & Built with the most Advanced and Desired Features for the Radio Enthusiast. It has been built to the Highest Quality Standards that I have ever seen or used in any Mobile Radio. MAGNUM INTERNATIONAL has taken it's time and listened to what people wanted and needed in a radio and Developed / Built one of the most Advanced Radios there is. The MAGNUM S-9 Radio is Truely the FLAGSHIP of the MAGNUM LINE of Fine Radio Products. Respectfully Submitted, Lon Tech808 |
