Look forward to more upcoming Review's on the  MAGNUM M-1 and the MAGNUM S-9.
As the MAGNUM M-1 and S-9 Radio's become avialiable, Mr. Sam Lewis (Owner of RF LIMITED / MAGNUM INTERNATIONAL) has assured me that he will send me one of the First of Each Model to do a Review on for the Copper Forum Member's.

Great review Lon! I had Mr. Bob Fitzpatrick work on my Delta Force and also had the TOP GUN MODULATOR put in,it gives a new meaning to "wall to wall tree top tall" Bob knows how to make a radio work

Aw Nutz,
Only now does Magnum have better control knobs. The volume knob on my Omega Force S-45 has gone south to the point where it is only wide open volume until a 20 minute or so warmup!  |

ok, i have read your review on the S-3 radio.
I think it will make a fine edition to my mobile,
as I am going to sell my Delta Force. It is a fine radio, but I have no need for SSb or CW in my mobile. I will also be getting a bigger amp
eventually.
My question is: if I put the S-3 in my mobile, with the TG mod. off, power down, can I run my Texas Star 350 until I can afford another amp. Or will the radio, because of the pills and the swing hurt the 350.???

I personally have not tried my S-3 or S-45 with any amplifier as yet.
When doing the review and talking with Sam Lewis Owner of RF Limited and Magnum International he suggested that the S-3, S-45 not be used with any amplifier that has an exciter/driver in it.
He suggested using the Texas Star 500 or similar amplifier that does not have a built in exciter/driver in it.
Sorry I cannot be of more help.

nevets111, if you shut the top gun off, your texas star will work fine. and you could try it on and back down the mic gain til it swings less(losing some audio). BUT, you are losing all the benefits of buying that radio in the first place. now, is it a regular 350, or the high drive variable? i contacted sam lewis specifically regarding his recommendation of using a 4-2sc2879 amp, without a driver stage ONLY, such as the ts 500 hdv. ok, understood. so, with the willingness to sacrifice my 2-2sc2879 high drive ts 350 in the interest of experimentation, i hooked it up on my S9 w/ 2 fans blowing on it. it's output was higher than normal, and it didn't seem to heat up any more than normal. would it last forever? who knows. but it worked fine then, no overdrive problems, nothing. |

thank you for your comments on this radio and amp.
i know if i purchase the s-3, that untill i get another amp, i will be loosing the benefits of the radio, but when i get a bigger amp, i can use it to the fullest extent .... from all reports, the s-3 is one of the best performing on the market today stock out of the box.i haven't heard one yet. along with the programming of channels that i want(26.065-28.755)(i hope this is broadbanded enough) i will love this radio .... BTW ... i have the regular ts350 in my mobile and the ts350hd on my base, so if needed i can switch them out ..... thanks again steve |

I’m having some weird bassy fuzzy receive and in the talkback on my Magnum S3. It seems the transmission sounds good, but no matter of the variable settings, it sounds fuzzy. I’ve got it matched to a Wilson 5000, and everything has been grounded with straps. Inside the radio in the front side of the channel selector there’s wax covering a large area. I don’t see any leaky caps, mosphets and finals appear good and diodes and other open transistors appear good. What may be causing this deep bassy fuzzy sound? |

Could it be RF getting back into your audio? Try grounding the radio itself to the vehicle chassis.
