R10-10134 Ranger SRA 166C [R10-10134] $42.99 This high quality speaker made of durable long lasting material with excellent audio reproduction. It has 5 LED’s in three different colors to indicate audio levels; orange LED indicates low range, red LED for mid range and green LED for high. The LED’s are directly driven by the audio signal. Ranger SRA 166C Speaker Review. By Mike ~ Modrator120 Well let me first state this: do NOT buy this speaker for the LEDs. They are not the selling point of this speaker. I had to crank the volume all the way up on my radio to get them to turn on. And even then only 3 out of the 5 LEDs came on. To say the LEDs are junk would be harsh, but saying they are a failure wouldn’t be. But with that said, the speaker it’s self is great. First off, the speaker is heavy, about a pound and a half. Metal construction, and chrome. It is hands down one of the prettiest speakers I have seen. It will look good with any radio you might use it with. There is a black version, but I have not seen that one as of yet. The sound of the speaker is very good. Now it is NOT a DSP speaker, but is still, compared to the 3 other speakers I have in my radio room, it was at the top. And the cord is a nice heavy duty type. Not some cheap cord! The mounting bracket is a nice one as well. All in all, a well built speaker to be sure. And I used it on my radios as well as on my laptop. It sounded good with anything I tried it on. Which just goes to show it is a good speaker. And just to let you know, the Speaker plug is Mono, not Stereo. But it still worked on the laptop very well. But now for the LEDs. All I can say is, they fell far short of what I had hoped for. Now I had done some research on the speaker before I bought it, and yes I paid for it, Coppers did NOT give me one to try out for free. And after looking at some other reviews I found no one else had mentioned anything about the LED's being junk. So I called Paul at Copper and asked him if he had the same trouble, and he said yes. He to couldn’t get all five LED's to light either. And he had tried 3 or 4 speakers and all did the same thing. He said he had talked to Ranger about it, but had not gotten any real answers from them. Now like I said, if your buying the Ranger SRA 166C for the LEDs, you will be very disappointed. But if you buy it for the looks, and well made construction, you will be happy with it. I like the speaker, and I plan on using it as my main speaker in my radio room. But the LED's are just not worth mentioning. So to sum it up, this is what I found when trying the speaker out. The Good: 1. Well built 2. Very good sound quality 3. Nice heavy duty cord 4. And very nice looking. And the Bad: 1. LEDs are junk. 2. No repair in the near future for the LEDs Conclusion: So if you looking for a good looking well built speaker that sounds good, then the Ranger SRA 166C External Speaker} is the right speaker for the job. If your looking for LED's to light up your radio experience, look else where. Respectfully Submitted, Mike/Moderator120

Good REVIEW Mike ~ Moderator120 Now a few Question's for you: Over the year's I have found that some External speaker's sound great on AM and junk on SSB. How is the Audio when using it on SSB? Also have you tested / used it in Mobie use yet? As car's & truck's are getting smaller inside with less room, what is the actual size? Width / Height / Depth? Well Lon, I found the audio was great on Am and SSB. Not the best I have heard, but pretty good none the less. I have not used it mobile, I might try that in a few days. As for the sie, it is 5.5 inches tall, 3.5 deep and about 5 inches wide. It would fit in most cars and trucks. You can get smaller speakers, but then you lose the sound quality. It's a good speaker with good sound and a good size. You can get plenty of worse speakers, and a few better ones. But this is a good small speaker that would work for most folks I think.
