OK, I purchased a variable kit from everyones favorite auction site a long time ago. Finally getting around to using it. It is called the 621-MODULATOR kit Cobra 2000 148 GTL Uniden Grant XL. Basically a 3 wire potentiometer (And inbetween 2 wires is a heat shrink with a transistor and small cap in it). The instructions say this:

Cut TP8 wire. Solder wire 1 of the potentiometer to the TP8 wire closes to the board. Solder wire 2 to the other TP8 wire. Solder wire 3 to ground.

They mention to use TP7 instead on a Grant for better swing. I am guessing that small heat shrinked cap and transistor help too. Any thoughts on this mod I bought? Seems real easy to install, but TP7???? I always thought it was VR10. Thanks.

TP7 and TP8 are used in helping set driver and final bias using a multimeter. It sounds to me as all it is doing is changing bias on driver and final with the potentiometer.
