In old volume 3 of secret cb, there is a section on the Eagle 500 amp showing the removal of a capacitor across the drive control. What was the purpose for this mod? |

when these amps came out in the late '70's, they were marketed at CW transmitters to get around the FCC. kind of like what texas start does these days. to use the amp on 11 meters, you had to move one leg of a cap to a different part of the coil. ui think the cap removal thing was for more power output. i have an old eagle VIII which is pretty much identical to the 500. when i got mine, the cap was already removed. hope this helps, not much info on the net for these amps, and the 20LF6 tubes are very expensive to buy now. upwards of 75.00 each! if yours is working good. treat it nicely, and give it no more than a 3 watt deadkey, and about 15-20 watts of swing. later, matt |
