I recently picked up a TRC-431 that had D506 and D507 removed as part of the modulation mod. I would like to undo this so I can troubleshoot some issues but can not find any info on the values of those parts. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Just as a follow up, what I am looking to find out is what type of diode goes in those two spots. Even an educated guess would be better than nothing. 73, Patrick |

viper, you need to get a different radio if you want to do all that. the TRC-431 is an AM only radio, so even with a channel mod; you arent going to be able to talk to anyone up there. they only use SSB. you will never get "super modulation" from it. you can get splattery, muffled, distorted audio from it by clipping the modulation limiter. dual finals? whatever for? if you look at a chart that compares wattage increase to S-unit increase; you will see that doubling you power will only equal 1/2 s unit increase. to put dual finals in this radio; you would have to redesign the entire transmit section. im sure that would cost you more than the 80 dollars you would spend on a KL300p linear amp that would give you about 150 watts PEP. and you can order the amp from here! here is some advice from someone that has clipped ALOT of limiters in his day. leave that radio alone, and buy a good power mic. (dm-452) (d104m6b) buy a linear like the one i suggested, and a power supply. you will have spent about $200.00 and you will DEFINITELY get out and sound good doing it. hope this helps, matt PS. if you must tinker with it; turn up VR7 for more modulation. thats about all you can do.

Thanks for the help..I have a 2x4 linear that packs a punch. I just want to be super loud but at the same time clear. I bought a nice desk power mic and a turbo echo board. this vintage radio is just to ad to my cobra 2000 browning mark 3 and magnum s-9 |

cool! i have had one of these on my bench before, and the guy wanted the limiter clipped, when i did it, the radio checks came back distorted, muffled, etc. i put the diodes back in, wired up a d104m6b, and it sounded great! good luck, matt |
