I am getting my 696fd1 moded for extra channels, does it need to be realigned after it is done. I`m doing the mod where you cut the two wires and add 2 switches. |

probably not. unless it was off freq to begin with.have someone listen to your transmit AM & SSB, then you listen to them & see where things end up, if you open the clarifier up it'll probably no longer be on center, but that's not really a big deal. the expo kits usually need a realignment, but again, do it with another radio & you can usually get it close enough where the fine tune tweaks it those few hertz it's off. tweaking by ear is tweaking to YOUR ear-again, not really a bad thing. |

can't help you with the colors, airplane, the gray & yellow wires should be the ones from the back of the channel selector switch, P5 & 6 right? disconnect wires from bright/dim, & either solder 'em together, or keep 'em apart, depending on how you want lights to stay-bright or dim. then tape 'em up. as for ch 19 switch, the center wire on the switch goes to the wire that gives you regular channel-NOT 19.the other gives you 19 and gets taped up alone. the first 2 get soldered together & taped. just check with an ohmeter, radio on 'regular' channel, whichever 2 wires together show '0' resistance are the 2 you solder together. then you remove wire from board end that camefrom P5 & solder loose end to bright switch, & take another piece of wire & go from other pin on switch back to the empty hole. you then do the same with the P6 wire & use the ch 19 switch, the same 2 pins the 2 wires you soldered together came off of. anyways, it's 8 hours since you posted airplane-you should have it done & tested by now!!! |

I got every thing working now and talked to CA the other night + some others and they all said I was right on frequency. I ended up useing the tone switch though because I just could`nt figure out the ch 19 switches three wires(black, white and blue) every thing I tried made the channel selector light go out so like I said I just used the tone switch. That worked well. Thanks for your help though, Roger |
