1) Mount 2 SPST toggle switches in a good loacation on the radio. 2) Locate and unsolder the 11.1125mhz Crystal and replace it with a 11.3258 mhz crystal. 3) Locate pin 10 and 11 of the MB8719 chip. Cut the traces that are connected to them. 4) Solder two wires across the pin 11 and the cut to one switch. Solder two wires across pin 10 and the cut to the other switch. |

That gives you 26.815 - 28.045. If you decide to do this mod, let me know. I will give you the "road map" for the freqs/channels. Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |

Sporthd68..Pull back on the riens on those horses..I have never seen you ask for a crystal on the Forum. I know you may be excited but it takes time...The fastest way to get a crystal is to call one of 100 crystal manufactures. I recommend 1-800-JAN-XTAL. The cost is about 20 bucks... 307 |

I had a friend's Uniden Washington over, that I was going to show a fella just last week. Several months ago the clarifier was fixed to TX/RX together. The range was not very fast or wide. It worked very smoothly and was centered at top dead center at 12:00 as verified by other stations on center frequency as it should. I was using it pretty steady off-and-on for about two hours. I was talking to the guy that owned it and all of a sudden the thing just went berserk, up and down frequency, on TX and RX. We both heard this happen. It settled down a little and we agreed to turn it off and let it cool, as the problem was thought to be heat related. No unuasual heat was noticed anywhere about the radio, however. Thirty minutes later it was turned back on and a contact was made with the same station as before. Now the clarifier had to be adjusted in order to get on frequency. It was now off top dead center. It was high, and had to be dialed in at about 10:00 in order to get on frequency. The freq did not change for several minutes. Then the wobble happened again. The Washington was returned to the owner. It has been sitting in the repair shop for about a week now and they have not been able to dulpicate this intermittent. I also noticed that when touching the channel selector, very gingerly, it seemed to make a little shift in frequency as well even before it went haywire again. What do you think may be wrong. I am not a Tech and know very little about the insides of a radio. Marconi |

You may not believe this but the channel selector does create trouble with the Washington and there is a cure..DO THIS WITH CARE!! Remove the channel selector knob to get at the shaft.Insert the shaft into a standard hand drill and lightly tighten the chuck keeping the drill straight and level. "Spin" the shaft at full throttle with the drill for about 6 seconds. Remove the drill and put the selector knob back on. Your problem will be gone. This process cleans the contacts as well as removes the grease that is used to hold the bearing inplace during manufacturing... |

Anybody know of a super swing mod for this radio? A diode & resistor combo perhaps? Thanks HootyAl. |
