:confused; Color me....confused. Just got this KLV-250 amp with the KB-203 board. It powers up OK but I can detect no difference in signal strength when transmitting. The Watt meter fails to register, but I've been told that these RM meters don't hold up very well to shipping abuse. Despite this, the amp came packaged like no other, completerly encased in multiple layers of bubble wrap & ghost turds. I've looked over the two boards in this amp and can not detect any burned up circuits by smell or sight. Any ideas? |

Turbogus, check all your coax connections to the radio and amp, make sure there is no crimp, that they are tight, change the coax if you can, keep playing with it, it will work, Don't ask me. I have been there |

The coax checks out OK (checked with Ohm meter) and the CB gets out OK with the amp on or off. It's just that others I've spoken with says there's no differece in signal strength. Oh, and I have a new meter on the way. Thanks for posting a response! |

Okay I'll start basic. Where is your watt meter inline? I'll assume it goes radio/amp/meter? No insults intended, just trying to start at the basics. You should see a noticeable increase, but then again, so should your buds. I have no experience with the KLV tube amps but sure would like to see you get it up and running. Have you done the tune and load procedures? Sorry, I know too little about those to ask much more. You might want to e-mail Tech307 direct and ask him. Alsworld |

Well, Alsworld the Watt meter is incorporated into the amp itself. I have a new meter coming in case it's just a bad meter. Insofar as the amp itself, this is a KLV-250 transistor (as opposed to tube) amp. The KLV-250 is a base amp, and on mine it has the KV-203 daughter board. (I know I said in my original post a KB-203 but I have a plugged nose ;) The lights come on OK and prior to converting it I had noticable lock gain on my Cobra 142 GTL's power meter. Since converting it though the 'lock' no longer occurs but no noticable power gain either. I am certain about the conversion too. Arrgh! Can you give me Tech307's email address? |
