Hello, Can you tell me how I can convert a TRC 47 for extra channels? My list of Expo expander kits doesn't include it nor does my Thomas Publishing Master manuals. Thanks much! Tombstone/222 |

This is a non PLL radio. It uses a crystal matrix for frquency synthesis. Most of the Expo Expanders were designed to replace the main loop mixing crystal oscillator for the PLL in question, thereby also changing the range of frequencies. In order to modify the TRC-47, you will need to determine how many extra crystals you will need for the range you want to cover. Then you will need a scheme to switch those cystals into place. That's if you want the original, plus the new range. Otherwise, you can just replace the existing ones. At this stage you should quit for two main reasons. One, crystals are very expensive to cut these days, and two you will need to design a circuit to switch between the existing and the new set of crystals. Or you can check out http://www.cbcintl.com/ , and talk to Lou there. He will point you to his Expander 160... This can add up to a lot of $$$. Definitely not worth it. Try finding a VFO-90, and use that instead to get you the extra channels. Best place to look for VFO-90's are on eBay. I think model 3 is the right one for the TRC-47, better check. |

Thanks, Stanley! I went to the link that you posted and found a freq. chart for the radio, and got four channels below channel one which is what I wanted. Tombstone/222 |
