i have a galaxy DX2547 base and would like to get more slide(down in particular)w/the clarifier. after doing the clarifier mod it will almost slide down one channel;but not quite! can a guy change the clarifier pot to a higher or lower value to achieve more slide? or is the clarifiers range restricted by something else in the circuit elsewhere? i've blown the PLL w/the 10kc mod once and don't really want to blow another! i believe a surge got it but don't wanna chance it again! thanks all,SLIM |

Changing the pot will gain you nothing. The way to do it is regulate the 12 volts down to 9 volts using an LM-7809. Feed the 9 to the clarifer control instead of the 8 volts. This will will give you one volt more on the varactors , thus you will slide about 500 to 800 Hz more. |

Add more inductance inline with the varactor diode by adding a choke valued around 500uH. That should give you more range in the circuit...Enjoy! |

Hey 307 or ANYONE else.Back in about 1977-1984 I was working in a cb shop in pittsburgh ,PA. We used to get the "super" or "maxi-tune" diodes from selman ent. ,etc. My question is does anyone know where to get these diodes now???Some were great, some were ....... BUT the good ones with the inductor would give about 10 kc slide in some radios.......... AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH the good old days, unlock clarifier...$75.00, peak and tune....$60.00..... extra channels.......$80.00--- $150.00 !!!!!!That was the fun days !!! I payed my way through college working about 30 hours a week at a truck stop cb shop in P.A. |

Selman (Secret CB) sold one type of "slider diode" , I remember when I used to buy them. I worked for Selman for several years writing for Secret CB. The diode was called a "Secret CB Super Slide Diode" and was sold for $3.00 each. I just looked it up in Selmans "Secret CB Catalog"...It is a common Varactor Diode and could be bought at digikey.com 307 |

I had a look at that site at cant see them there. I bought 10 of a guy in Hawaii who had them for years. Took me over a year to hunt some down. Besides being great in clarifier circuits they are great in vco varactor replacment, bringing tunable range of a mb8719 chassis up to 4 mhz (with xtal switching and pll mods) when fitted to the uh007 vco module. |

Slim 1. Here is the mod for a 10kc +/- for the Galaxy DX2547. Be VERRRRY carefull. Exercise a great deal of care with this mod especially with cutting the trace as because of the placement, size, and close proximity of the surrounding traces. If done wrong, you could destroy the PCB and/or the PLL chip. If you have even the slightest doubts or the proper equipment, it would be wise to send it to Copper. They have some very sharp people there. Or, you can have someone else you trust perform the mod for you. Here is the DX2547 10kc +/- mod. Changing the logic level of pin 16 on the RCI-8719 PLL chip will give you a +10kc or -10kc depending on channel selector. Cut the trace at pin 16 and bridge the cut with a 4.7K ohm resistor. You can then wire the CENTER contact of a spdt on-off-on switch to the PLL pin side of the 4.7K resistor on Pin 16. Wire one of the outside contacts of the switch to Pin 9 for 8 volts and the other outside contact to Pin 18 for board ground or anywhwere on board ground. NOT CHASSIS GROUND. If you did the frequency mods yourself on that radio, then you shouldn't have any trouble with this one. Jeff, kc0gxz. |

Make sure you have nothing causing a volt drop between the clarifier feed to varactor and varactor itself. ie resistors or diodes that you hav'nt shunted out, check the clarifier pot ground side is to ground and not grounding via any resistors etc. How much upslide have you got? Dont waste the range. My method is turn the clarifier fully clockwise take the knob off and refit at 1.00 oclock position. Turn back slightly to 12.00 oclock. Retune radio for centre freq here eg 27.355.00 am at ch 35. tune all modes. Allow for audio freq offset. ie 1000hz audio injection will show 27.356.00 on usb and 27.354.00 on lsb on counter. Now you have a bigger downslide range to reach and pass the 10kc mark and should have about ~1kc up which is plenty. Also 12.00 oclock will still be centre tune. |

Czar. Kinda reminds me of an old timer that had a CB shop in his house (in a side room off of the kitchen) . I went to him from 1993 to the summer of 1997 when he suddenly passed. Peak and tunes were 20.00 channels which included a clarifier slider, 45.00. He was a retired engineer from -I think- Dana corp, so he didnt need to make a huge amount of $$$ from his CB stuff.... LOL |

Boy was I glad I bought bunch of those(Super Diodes & Super Slides(Chokes)), before selman enterprise closed. Still have Some! every now and then I use one still to this day. Had a CB shop from 1993-1998. |

I was woundering what digi key part number was used for the super diode or super slider from selme interprise. Is there another replacement number for this diode. thanks |
