Why hack up a good radio when you get just buy a mic with echo/roger beep in it? Then you can use it on the next radio you get as well. Just my two cents.

Newoperator, A roger beep will not help you with weak transmissions. If the person you are talking with cannot hear you when you are done talking then a roger beep will not help as they will have no idea who or where the roger beep is coming from, or even if it is YOU using it or just someone playing with a noise toy. The Magnum 257 is a GREAT RADIO and one of the best selling and used radios of all time 100% STOCK out of the box and needs nothing added. There is just no need to add a roger beep unless you personally just want to add a noise toy to it. The ARRL 2007 FIELD DAY is June 23-24, 2007 beginning at 1800 UTC Saturday and ending at 2100 UTC Sunday. Just listen in to all the ham bands excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12-meter bands and you will hear 1000's of contacts per minute from around the US and WORLD and NO roger beeps. Hope this help's, Lon ~ Tech808 ~ N9CEF CEF#808 ~ CEF HAM#33 ~ CVC#002 Tech808@copperelectronics.com

Hack it up? I beg to differ.. Adjusting the length and tone of most roger beeps requires changing a cap and resistor... no big deal. Find a good cb tech and have him look at the schematic. |

The 257 does not have a roger beep in it and personally I do not see any reason for adding a roger beep. I know a lot of people that will not talk to you if you have a roger beep on. Just what I have observed in over forty years on the radio. HARVE UNIT199 CEF210 CVC18 KB0YVK
