I purchased a bunch of radio equipment the other day, and it came with this Maco 200 AMP. I cant find any information anywhere on this amp, IT powers up fine, all the tubes light up and the fan comes on fine. I havnt tried to key it up yet till I find out some info on it. Can anyone point me in the right direction or give me what info you can on it?
Oh by t ehway, I got it, a Cobra 142GTL with a turner +2 desktop mic and with channels and mod kit, a few extra meters, and a uniden scanner + a bunch of cable all for $100 |

whaddya wanna know? it's a lovely shade of mukky green-gray, with an output meter, tune & load knobs, AM/SSB switch, hi/low, standby switch, power switch & 2 lights with 1 6kd6 driving 3 6kd6 sweep tubes. i have 1 i got around 1978, that smoked the transformer after a couple years of use. replaced it & ran ran 10 more years til transformer smoked again. still sitting in shack. made for 4-5 watts in, 100-150 carrier out. i know i hammered mine for 200 carrier, & 400-500 swing. make sure SWRs are real good, adjust tune & load for max output. adjust input so amp shows 75 watts carrier for starters, then increase from there. mine ran HOT. also, make sure it was modded for CB-there will be a 'shorting wire' soldered across the big coil. even detuned, without being modded, the tubes won't last. typical of all CB amps of 30 years ago. |
