I HAVE A GALAXY SATURN,A99 ON A 50FT. TELESCOPIC MAST POLE. I'M GOING TO MOVE MY RADIO TO THE OTHER END OF MY HOUSE. MY QUESTION IS THIS; I NOW HAVE 75FT. OF COAX, AND I'M GOING TO HAVE TO ADD ANOTHER 50FT ROLL TO REACH. IS THIS TOO MUCH? NOT ENOUGH? ANY ADVICE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. |

Lugnut, The total of 125 feet you have will not be a problem. I would like to suggest a few things though. One the coax preferably should be all one piece. With every coax connection you have loss, and that can increase SWR and decrease power. If you are going to connect the coax together use 2 PL-259's and a barrel connector. Don't get funky and try to solder the coax together at the joint. Secondly, for a 125 foot run, try to use a good grade of coax like RG-213. It's a little more expensive but, once again, less loss. It's also better shielded that RG-58 and that helps to prevent RFI and TVI problems. I have an 80 foot run of RG-213 into an A-99 with no TVI problems at all. None. Finally, if you plan to use "power" be careful where you run the coax. Runs of coax near telephone lines, and cable TV lines will tear things all up if you are running excessive power and modulation. You could write a book on this topic but these are the main areas of concern. Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |

LUGNUT,you might also try N-connectors they are less lossy and water proof to boot. |

Rodder, 1985? It may be time to replace that old stuff. Try RG-8X or if you are partial to the heavy stuff RG-213. It depends on power and length of run. Yes, you can tear stuff up, especially TV's that are connected to an antenna rather than cable or satellite. Lossy coax can cause this problem as well. Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |
