Ok a lot of newer trucks are comeing with these pre-molded CB area's. THe problem is that they will only bit a radio up to the size of a Cobra 29. I do not have any local CB shops to check dimensions with. I prefer FUll size Chasis Export radio's like the 2950,SS158 etc..... I know that these areout of the question. Will a Stryker 440 fit in these little molded CB area's??? What Export radios' will fit?I like the idea of the protection diodes being built in from the factory. I am willing to give up SSB for the short term. I considered a Magnum 257 but worry about it around truck stops. I will be driveing team with my Dad. I used to have a CDL and drove 100Ft. but never a tractor trailer with 53 foot trailer.

My Dad uses $39 3 watt AM only radio's and I can not have that! I have some standards! I do not know yet if we are going to work for another company or get our own truck! Dad wants to get a used truck but I am thinking it might be better to sign on with a large company first. He is an OTR driver but does not do team's and is usualy onlu gone two days at a time currently. If we do get our own truck it will not matter since I can mount what ever I want.

Thank Guys!!!

The Cobra 29LTD measures,
8&5/8” (D) x 7&9/32” (W) x 2&13/64” (H)

Many of the Ranger and Galaxy radios measure:
9&1/4" (D) x 7&7/8" (W) x 2&3/8" (H)

So really, the largest difference is in how deep they are.

You might be in for a bit of a tight fit, but with a little creative shoe horning, it should fit.

Your other option is a slip seater box, and go from there.

My little Realistic was mounted on the dash, but I would be a bit concerned about mounting a 148 or an S9 or a similar radio on the dash.

Prone to theft in my opinion.

Heat is an issue, sure there is air flow, but the sun baking the case all the time won't help.

Big radios need air, and it's easier to mount a fan under the dash than on top of it.
