Imax 2000, mast mounted with the feedpoint at 20 feet. My question is,would I be better off adding the GPK to the Imax or going with a TopOne AP. I've read all of Tech 833's articles on choosing a groundplane. And still aren't sure which way to go. Any suggestions??? |

with a feedpoint of 20ft., you would be better off with the top one. imax would be better if the feedpoint was 36' or higher. best of luck, matt anyone wanting a "clean signal", just look to the left and build one of these!!!

That's sorta what I was thinking also Matt. But the I read Tech 833's article on choosing a groundplane, especially the part about "tip above 30 feet", and thats where it all became confusing to me. Maybe down the road some new antennas will become available. I was looking on one of the auction sites last night and seen a new in the box A/S Superscanner MS119. Thats one whopper looking ant. With feedpoint at 20 feet AGL, I would stick with the Imax. |

well there you have it. my logic was that the maximum radiation from your imax is at 20', while the top one would be at 24'. you like the pic? i found it on the net, but i dug it alot so i made it my avatar. "clean amp!" matt anyone wanting a "clean signal", just look to the left and build one of these!!!

dont add anything. just run the imax the way it is an you will have great success.. i ran mine plain jane an talked all over with nothing but good reports. try it that way an see, you can always take it back down an add the gpk if u desire. WA1BXY RI 7.039CW/ 3.549 CW/50.090CW

Installed a new Top One Astroplane this past weekend. As per KV's instructions on beefing up the hardware, scuffing the metal to metal contact point, coating with penetrox, and securing the hoop with nylon rope. On a 20 foot mast, this ant. has made my radio a happy camper again. SWR's 1.1:1 across all 40, noise level is almost non existent. And I'm hearing things, I've never been able to hear in addition to making contacts That previously I couldn't. Bottom line "Under 30ft. this ant. ROCKS" Tommy~852~CEF 750 Do They Make Anything Besides "GALAXY"?

If you already have the Imax 2000 and it is only 20 feet AGL to the feedpoint, then you will notice an improvement by adding the GPK and grounding it very well. |

852, im glad you like the antenna! i swear, this antenna is the answer for being a CB'er stuck in the city where houses are so close together that you cant put up a tall mast because it will fall on your neighbors property. how many of us fall into that catergory these days? (raises hand) have fun, matt anyone wanting a "clean signal", just look to the left and build one of these!!!
