I had a MR4 mounted 3' above the tower and it worked fine. But it is recommended that the elements are above the tower. DX431 CEF#106 RT431 QS431 Nebraska

My lower elements go about 3ft below the top of the tower and it works great. That 400 sure is a BIG antenna lol. I just have the Shooting Star which is big enough for me. If I lived in the country I'd have me a 400 though. |

The tower will not that much effect on it since no matter what with the mast pipe inline also, I have a JO gunn 4x4 and my vertacal elements hang about 2 ft. inline with tower and it works fine |

It was very windy and gusty here last night in Eastern Iowa. About 50 mph gusts and my antenna is fine. I thought the same thing. I'd rather have it be secure than a little bit higher. |

showtime, many years ago i had a 3 element comet on a tower, with more then 1/2 of the driven element below the top of the tower. swr was just fine, & i never had any xmit or rcv issues with it. |
