You know, I just thought of something I kind of noticed but still never thought about. With all the power computers have, it's shocking they don't interfer with cb radio reception. When I lived in Northern VA I had a computer right beside my cb, and never had any trouble. Where i am now, I have a computer within twelve feet of my cb and another within two feet the other direction. The computer doesn't bother my radio, but the radio can bother one of the computers. Well, the modified Yaesu is the one that bothers the computer. The Cobra is fine. I just thought I'd throw that in. CADILAC |

I have experienced a problem during CQ World Wide. If the radio and computer are not separated by two feet, it zaps the logging program I wrote. Grounded aluminum foil between them seems to help. This is with a Kenwood TS-450SAT and no linear. |

I haven't seen it mentioned in the forum yet but here in Australia a few of the internet companies are trialling broadband over powerlines in certain areas. Apparently operators have been affected to the point of s9 interferrence 24 hours a day for the duration of the trials, covering the whole 1.8 to 30 mhz. There is a big writeup on the WIA website for those that are interested, along with a way to make reports of said interferrence. This brings a whole new meaning to computer/radio interferrence. If this is happening you might want to ask yourself Am I being exposure to RF energy?inside the shack? If the radio and computer are that close together you too are within 2 feet of them when useing them. So if one is interferrening with the other it just might be putting out to much RF. Try changing the refresh rate on the monitor if the "birdie" is in a spot where you need to listen. Also, "Wall Warts" are notorious for making noise and my computer uses one for the printer, the speakers, the extra USB hub...etc. I also noticed a bunch of birdies across 2 meters, 70 cm, and 6 meters this last weekend during the VHF contest. I had to have the computer on so I could log it without writing a paper log. 73 Marty |
