Hello, I'm new here. Been driving truck for 12 years and want to start getting into these radios more. Now be advised that I am a TOTAL newbie when it comes to the insides of these radios. That said I have a Grant XL I bought in the mid nineties. When I bought it I had it peaked and tuned and had extra channels put in it. I used it for a year then left it in the truck while another driver drove it. That was my fault. When I got the radio back it had a connex board added to it for echo and reverb. It seems to me that it was getting a little buzzing if I turned the echo down or off. I just pulled the radio out and want to put it in my truck but I'd like to find someone who really KNOWS the grant xl so I can have it looked over and see that everything is okay. I have NO idea who did the connex board and I know it's sometimes hard to find one of these truck stop cb shops who know anything about the XL. I'd also like to make sure all the mods that can be done to it have been. It worked fine even though it hasn;t been used in years. When they put the connex board in they put the switch in the hole where the clarifier was. I imagine it's wraped up inside the case somewhere. I'v come across a texas star 500HDV that I'fd liek to hook to this radio so I want to make sure it's all good how would I find someone to look at or repair it? I drive out of Madison WI and regularily drive to Natchez Mississippi. |

that is a great radio. Make sure you let a reputable shop look it over. Not some idiot in a truck stop with a Dosy meter |

Medicine_man, It would be against the Copper Forum Rule Advertising for anyone to post any repair shop information. Check with other cber's in your area or on the air to see who they would recommend if you do not want to send it to uniden (the manufacturer) for repair. Hope this help's, Lon Tech808 N9CEF CEF#808/HAM#33 CVC#002

I read the rules but didn't notice it applied to service as well. I didn't think asking people with the right knowledge for there personal opinions would be a problem. Sorry |
