There are two models of the Cobra 139, one is just the 139 and a 23 channel, and the other is the 139 XLR the 40 channel. Yes,if your radio is the 40 channel there are many modifications for the XLR. Close to 200 channels with a two switch configuration. |

Bruce: The 139 23 channel is crystal controled, a Pal or Glenn VFO will work wonders on a 23 channel 139, although now the 139 XLR has the uPD-858 PLL and can do 400 plus channels just with pin switching and doing the simple broadbanding mod. On the 139XLR, if one can be found in working condition the Redco second model or UFO Digi-Scan will give the 139-XLR and like radios 200 channels with 5 KHz. channel spacing. Other than using a VFO the 23 channel 139 and like radios, there's not a whole lot that can be done with them. |

I couldn't think of the Redco Digi-Scan model number when I wrote my other post, it's the model 400 and/or UFO that works on many of the PLL controled radios. Yes, for those of you that might ask. The Digi-Scans will also work on AM only PLL controled radios. |
