I did the channel mod as explained removed the 1 piece. The problem I am having is when I go to the low side I cant talk on all the channels for example when I switch to "A" and go to channel 3.8 I can hear people talking but when I try to key up nothing happens. but if I go to 4.0 i can talk Did I miss something?

Maybe check for cold solder joints? A loose wire or plug pulled out from a socket on the inside?

There is something about the mod that has you re-use the surface mount you removed, to make the mod, in another location to get the lower freqs to work.

I think you just re solder it to the next blank spot. I'm not sure. Please do a search on the internet before you do this.

Mine does the same thing. From what I read, it is normal for it not to transmit on certain freqs above and below 11M after the conversion. Supposedly these are considered Gov't frequencies, and are RX only.

I can confirm this on my set, too. I didn't check all of them, but several band "A" channels appear be RX only. The pdf mod sheet for it says that Resistor R676 controls these blocked "government" frequencies. I am assuming that removing R676 will make those channels TX/RX. But I'm not brave enough to try it, there are plenty of open channels, and the radio is AM/FM only anyway. It would be nice if someone made a list of which are TX/RX, and which are RX only! Perhaps not all versions of this rig have this "feature?"

Interesting approach, Cobra!

Here's something weird too. When I did the conversion, I noticed that R676 was not installed in my radio. There is an empty space where R676 should be. AFAIK, the radio is brand new and was untouched. I just bought it last week, so it should be one of the newer ones.
