I hooked this radio up this evening around 5:15pm to 5:30pm to a power supply and hooked the coax to it thats hooked to the A99. The radio was on 27.115 (Ch13) Right off I Started hearing a Religous Station, I was wondering where it was coming from,so I Went back to my other radio and on the beam and went 360° but never picked it up. Went back to the Undien 501 pro XL and there it was again. I then started to unhook the radio, Started with the coax and with no coax hooked up The station didn't faded away or gone at all, It was just the same, no louder or weaker. I then tryed other channels to see if it was just on 13 I was hearing it but it was on all Channels and just the same. Now I hooked the coax back up and keyed it and could hear my self talk on it ok but all I could hear was this religous station on it. Anyone else ever gone though something like this? put a low pass filter in frount of the radio and see what happens .... otherwise it might be a image ( -10.7 from 27.115 ) |

Could be an image from a local AM or FM broadcaster getting into the circuitry somewhere. About 30 years ago I had a Ray Jefferson 23 channel model CB-705. I was able to pick up a local FM station (102.5Mhz) On channel 12. It would splatter from channel 10 through 14, but ch 12 was virtually unusable. I have a Uniden Pro 510 XL as well in the mobile. I have hooked it up to my Antron 99 already but don't recall ever hearing what you are. I will try it again and let you know what I find. Good luck! |

Starface, I have had similar expieriences like that with the use of a preamp. Did you have an amp inline or right near the radio? Possible it is picking up a harmonic generated by another amp ar radio but most liely an amp. Try moving the radio away from all your other gear so its sitting by itself and see if it goes away. If not maybe you need an alighnment or if the radio is used someone did some golden screwdriver work to it. kenny cef491 |

my guess would be that the radio is mistuned, or has a problem with the VCO, or both. the fact that its picking up a radio station on all channels with no antenna hooked up says to me that the receiver is being overloaded. however, it is not happening on the other radio, even with an antenna connected. this is why i think that the 501xl has a lack of selectivity. bottom line, it needs to be sent to a tech to fix, but is probably not worth the repair bill. matt |
