Anybody ever heard of "strapping" an amp for more power ? Running a braided cable soldered at the outside of 2 pills over the top and then soldered again between them for a 25% to 30% power increase ? |

Amp goes boom! If I understood your question properly you would bew creating an uncontrolled feedback loop that would only cause the amp to a) Go into oscillation, and b) self destruct. I cannot advise doing it. |

most linear amps operate with a common emitter, which means that the emitter of the power transistors is grounded. if you look at a 2SC2290, or a 2SC2879, or pretty much any other commonly used "pill", you will notice that they have two Emitters, one on either side. when you see a row of pills in an amp, the emitters are the ones that are all soldered to eachother, and also to ground. the reason a strap is sometimes added is to increase stability in the amp to prevent oscillation. it is done to make the amp work like it should, it will not increase the power output of a properly working amp. here is a link to a pic of this: http://www.amateurlinearamplifiers.com/ productimages/cobra.jpg, matt |

Thanks Kid. I wasnt sure if I was understanding his question properly. I read it as he was wanting to strap the oputput back to input. |

yeah, i think this is one of those rumors that get started by shady techs. they will sell some guy an amp, and show him the ground strap on the inside, telling him that its a "special mod" to get more output. he's also probably upcharging for the mod.LOL then the guy goes home and swears up and down that the amp is hot rodded, because he really believes that it is. the truth is, as im sure you know, that if the amp is designed and built properly, that the strap isnt needed. matt |
