--Hi, all. I just noticed that Copper Electronics has gotten in a new RG-8 sized coax, "Altelicon CA-400". Does it use the standard RG-8 sized PL-259 connectors such as http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodC70-05060+ ? I was thinking that some types of coax such as 9913 was better suited for crimp on type connectors and I just wanted to be sure I didn't need a special connector. Thanks! |

The Altelicon CA-400, which i use quite a bit of at work, will need the same connectors as the Belden 9913. We usually use the crimp type with no problems. |

Mayor513, Does it use standard PL-259 connectors? YES The Crimp Type PL259 style connectors can be used but are NOT required for the Altelicon CA-400 as Regular PL-259 connectors from Copper Electronics WILL WORK. When you cut the center core on the Altelicon CA-400 you will need to file the edges from the cut down and it will slide through the center pin of the PL-259 for a very good tight connection when soldered. And Copper Electronics will soon have the CA-400 in 50', 75' and 100' pre-made jumpers also to make it even easier. Hope this help's, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 PS: Did I mention I HATE crimp on style connectors? |

The CA-400 is good stuff. Pretty easy on the pocket book too. Luckily, i've gotten roughly 1000' from work for free. Sad part is, we buy 500' at a time, when we might only use 50' of it. The other 450' comes back to my warehouse in Louisville and "somehow" disappears! It's magic, i swear! |

Dale, I would say quite a few Copper Forum Member's have ordered the Altelicon CA-400 Coax and are using it since copper was sold out of it and we had to wait for Fed X to deliver another order of Altelicon CA-400 Coax so I could bring it back from our Copper trip last week. There was 250-300 feet of Altelicon CA-400 Coax when we arrived on Thursday morning and Friday morning it had already been ordered and shipped out to another Copper Forum Member. The Copper Tech DOES NOT use any crimp on connectors and all holes and center pin are soldered and tested before it is shipped. Dale,About that CA-400. You may want to have the Copper tech put the pl-259 connectors on for. For $2.50 an end it is well worth it. That is some really tough coax. To seal up the connectors from weather Copper carry's some stuff called "Coax "Tape". This tape is amazing stuff and works perfect! Kenny cef491(27.115lsb) 2sf491(27.555usb) Indiana

Dxmoto, Not sure about other PL-259's but the PL-259's from copper will fit and it is a good TIGHT fit. You will probably need a good pair of vice grips and a vise. And it will take you awhile. Or a Dale suggested above in this Topic: (You may want to have the Copper tech put the pl-259 connectors on for. For $2.50 an end it is well worth it.) Dxmoto I use that cable on 450 mhz with loss that so so small that it's not worth worying about. On CB your loss will be under 1DB ..... again not much at all. As with all conectors water needs to be kept out you do that and the cable will last many years ... On 6 since 66
