I was using my Washington and noticed that it started showing no power out off and on. Finally it quit transmitting. Everything else is working fine. If I put the MOD button on it shows modulation just no power out. I tried 3 other mics and it does the same. Does this sound like a blown final ? It has the 1969 final in it. Also hooked a tuner to it and power out on its meter shows nothing either. |

this same thing happened to me with my 2000gtl which also has the 1969 final. it started going off and on and then finally quit. most people i talked to didnt think it was the final, as they usually just work or dont work. i went with my hunch, and replaced it. it worked, and has worked to this day. i used a 2SC1307 to replace it as i had one, its a great transistor. if you've got any old 858 SSB radios lying around they probably have one it them. the 1969's are getting expensive, and be careful of remarked fakes. i think workman has a direct replacement for them, but i dont know where to get one. good luck, matt |

cool! congratulations, its nice when something actually works the first time. just so you know sonwatcher, that NTE part will most likely work fine for you. there is a chance that it wont last as long as an OEM replacement. you see, NTE is a parts re-labler. they take, say, 10 different parts with very similar characteristics, and re label them as NTE ???. sometimes they are fine, sometimes not. i have had good luck with them so far. thats all i can get locally so i try them alot. never tried the NTE236, i hope it works for you. best to re bias the final and driver after one of them has been replaced to maximize the life of the new part. quite easy to do with a voltmeter that will read milliamps. i can walk you through the procedure if you can find it online. shouldnt be too hard. try defpom. matt |
