Has anyone ever heard of a 3 piece big stick?I was given what looks like a 3 piece big stick to check it over for a friend of mine.Description is as follows: 3 pieces each 6 feet long, the bottom section is about 3/4s the diamater of a normal big stick, the other 2 pieces look similar to an A99. Its got me puzzled , looks like a cross between a big stick and an A99 with out tuning rings.Anyone know what this might be? Bob CEF451 |

Shakespeare did make a 3 section bigstick, I used to own one. They work just as well as the A99, and they have a vey good bandwidth, making the tuning rings unnecessary in my opinion. They are a little heavier than the A99, but not much. I gave mine to a friend to help get him set up on 11 meters, he has had it in a 70 foot pine tree for around 5 or 6 years no, it works great! |

That's what was called the Super Big Stick. It was an end fed 1/2 wave antenna like the A99. The Big Stick was a center fed 1/2 wave - a dipole. |

Tnx guys for the info on the 3 piece bigstick.Well here is an update . I put the antenna together and I have found that it is resonant near 25 mhz! nothing is broken nothing loose all looks fine.I do know that these fiberglass antennas do have a tendency to end up with internal damage, such as broken wires etc, this one seems to be fine, hears great on 12 ,15,17 and 20 meters, go figure!.Any way something to play with .Once again tnx for the quick response on my question.
