find out which pin on the mic connector on the radio is the receive pin, and then find out which one is the ground pin.
with the radio on, squelch all the way counterclockwise, NB and ANL off, and antenna connected; jumper those two pins together.
any noise from speaker?

confirm whether speaker is good or bad by using external speaker.

try this and post the results,
matt

already tried the external speaker. tried other mics also. will try the jumper from audio pin to ground to see if speaker makes noise.

ok we hooked it up for a while today. after it warmed up, the magic white smoke came from the audio chip. does the audio chip control rx and tx?

yes, usually no modulation on TX when it goes.

you can replace the chip, but if you dont know what caused it to go in the first place, you may just burn up the new one too.
good luck,
matt

it was working with modulation and transmit both just no receive. there is another problem now, after the audio chip getting smoked. not sure if he is wanting to try to fix it now, or not.

yeah,
not too many CB's are worth the money to fix them these days.
best to just get a new toy sometimes.
good luck,
matt
