i got a handheld cb radio at radio shack and i want to know if i got a whip antenna would it come in better and how well will itwork to pick up chl. 19 i live near philadelpia pa by the way thanks for the help

Hippieman556, The whip antenna. Are you refering to an external antenna that has a coax that you plug into the walkie? Or do you mean replacing the rubber ducky antenna that is attached to the walkie with a teloscopic type antenna? Any antenna will perform better than the rubber antenna on the radio. I have used the telescopic replacement and they do a much better job for pulling in the signal. As a matter of fact I have a radio shack walkie with the telescopic whip about 5 feet long and it recieves very good! Those little rubber flex antennas are pretty much useless for HF.
