Thats normal for all SSB radios to drift until the temperature is stable inside. If its drifting after it is warm and you had been using it for a while then thats no good. Lots of people tend to bash Galaxy sidebanders for drift but actually drift would be the least of my worries. AS long as you have nice sounding good steady audio, no warble no distortion thats a plus in my book! My radio can tune you in! Kenny cef491 |

Speccb, Mmmmm? That sounds a little interesting the way you descibed it. You say you lose the contact? Would this contact be made with AM mode or SSB mode? See when the freq. drifts in SSB mode you will still hear your contact but harder to understand them. Depending on the drift, up or down in frequency the audio will get high or low pitched. You notice the drift in SSB mode but In the AM mode you do not. AM mode is not frequency critical like SSB is. The contacts that you lose. Are they local, like in your town? Or are they DX, across the country hundreds of miles away? I think what you are expierencing is the characteristics of sky-wave propagation. The DX we all rave about, we call it skip! Because of the nature of skywave propagation it makes our DX contacts seem to drift in and out. Sort of sounds like the waves of the ocean coming into the beach at times! When the skywave conditions are STRONG we get very little drift in and out, sometimes none at all. When skywave conditions are WEAK we get lots of drift in and out sometimes losing the contact for good. Its normal. Sometimes conditions in an area will be strange and you may hear a station many miles away for only a brief second at a time. Nothing you can do to stop it. We are at the mercy of mother nature. BUT! You can improve your stations effiecency thus providing improved skywave propagation performance. A good DX antenna is what you want! It should be a minimum A MINIMUM of 5 feet long. The longer the better and tune that antenna to resonate perfectly! Also....an amplifier helps to be heard a little better when there are a lot of others on the same frequency. Hope I hit the nail on the head. 73 from the cornfield Kenny cef491 |

ok, I am talking to a local person on am .loud an clear the freq. counter starts throwing numbers all over the band and the contact is broken until the freq. is back to normal.example: I am on this freq. 27.205 then it changes to 27.595 then to 27.695 to 27.405 then back to 27.205. once the freq stabilizes we are talking again.then it starts doing it all over again |

Well you have a bigger problem than just simple drift! Look into the VCO like Captain radio suggested plus the band switch, they could be damaged. Also check the circuit were the conversion was done for cold solder joints and loose plugs. Since its jumping right out of the cb band into the next band segment. Odd though because those freqs are not on the same channel number as 27.205 is. Plus! 27.595 is an A channel. You need to activate the 10 kc switch to get it.Your radio is possessed man! I would just inspect the radio with a fine tooth comb looking for cold solder connections all over.good luck Kenny cef491 |
