Hi, I want some oppinions on buying an amp. I think Copper`s has so great prices on amps ready to rock and roll. I just keed going round and round as to what to get. I realy like the thought of a KLV350 or KLV400 tube amp but like the Texas Star 250 or 350. . I will be running a RCI 2985 DX into the amp. Please help me make up my mind! |

Well... Go tubes! If you understand RM's power figures then you will be fine. I ran the dickens out of a KL300P and it never flinched..... But I knew it's limits. For the money you can't go wrong with RM, just over buy in power. Chad |

I did have a KL500 mobile ,ran it for my base but sold it to get a base amp that plugs right in the wall. But the Texas star amps would need a power supply though I got a Pyramid 42PS46KX supply. What is a realistic output rating for the KLV400 tube base amp? Anyone know this, I know what the spects are listed here on copper online catalog but I want real life #s if someone has one. Thanks, Roger |

One more thing, how can the klv400 tube base amp put out more than the klv350 tube base when they are both two tubers with the same kind of tubes in them? |

The easiest way to answer this question is when any tube amplifier has an individual LOAD and TUNE control/adjustment (KLV-400) that will allow you to fine tune the Amp/Tubes for maximum performance rather than just a High/Low switch thus the 50 watt difference over the KLV-350 stated by RM. NOTE! I personally DO NOT recommend running any amp for Maximum Performance to get that little extra power that no one on the other end will be able to tell the difference and with a LOW DRIVE Amp it is just to easy for it to go POOF! Hope this help's, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 |

Airplane1,i have a texas star 250 hd in my truck that i really like.it swings about 275 watts.i just did away with my pwr supply and crows nest of wires which powered a palomar 225 in my house.I got a klv 350 base amp that plugs in the wall and i love it!it swings about 200 watts and everyone says it sounds much clearer than the pill amp.I personally recommend the klv for a base amp and the texas star for mobile.just do as chad says and over buy in power cause i thought the klv350 would do 350 watts but i only get 200.thats ok i can still talk to everyone i want to. just my 2 cents |

Bridge_man, is that 200watts on AM or SSB? I do mostly SSB and want about 300 watts output of my station. Roger |

Draft, I dont understand the TDD= part of this? Roger TECH note TDD= means total device dissipation or power dissipated by all the rf transistors when properly heatsinked. |
