I have a RCI 2950 I purchased from a local CB shop. It works on 11 meters, but other than that nothing has been done to it. I found the location of the modulation pot. Would it hurt anything if I opened it up more. I don't want a splatter box, but on low it will key 2 and swing about 3.

if you turn up the pot inside the radio, it will allow you to use the mic gain on the front panel to go from full minimum to full maximum.

the mistake most people make is to leave the front panel mic gain at max all the time after turning up the internal pot.

so, do it, turn it up inside, and then turn the mic gain up on the front panel until the reports come back distorted, and back it off just a bit.
good luck,
matt
PS, if you use a fine point sharpie to mark the original location of the pot inside, you can always put it back if you dont like it.
