Hello all,
I’m a newbie to the hobby and am needing some advice about driving a Palomar 600 mobile with the Apollo 2 tube I have.

My current station setup:
President Washington with a D104 tug 8 stand
A-99 45’ to the bottom of feed point with 150’ of min 8
Wawasee JB 500 Pm watt meter
Apollo 2 tube

The way I’ve got it set up now is the President will Dead key1 watt and swing 5 ½ watts into the Apollo with a dead key of 10 watt swinging 60 watts with 90% modulation.

The Palomar has 4x2879 transistors. My question is can I drive it with my current setup and be able to get 400 PEP of clean watts without driving the snot out of the Palomar and not hurting it?

TIA,
RIFF-RAFF

1st try the palomar without the apollo on & see what you get.

you would probably get the apollo's swing down to 35-40, which would be better for the 4x2879, by backing the mic gain down. audio may drop with the amp off, but when you switch it on, it'll be fine. 10 watts dead key....give it a quick key with no mic gain & see what palomar dead keys. if it's 100 watts or less, you should be OK, just check for heat.
