Ok. I am getting highly upset, frustrated and angry!! I installed MFJ 1750 2 meter 5/8 wave antenna, new mini 8 coax, amphenol silver plated teflon connectors and still getting a 3 or higher SWR on the whole band! I tested my connectors and are good. I adjusted antenna up and down and nothing changes! Do I need to cut antenna down? Can anyone help me because I am ready to trash this whole project, sell all my 2 meter stuff and stick to 11 meter that is at least tuneable. |

Well after calming down and evaluating the situation, The radial was 4 feet long. I chopped 3 inches off it and getting 1.5:1 on 148.00 and 1.8:1 on 146.00. I am going to nip another 1/8 and see what that gets me tomorrow. |

Crackshot, 1'st are you using a swr bridge designed for 2 meter and next put a "dummy" load on the antenna end of your transmission line to be sure it is ok.Dont cut the antenna until you have eliminated all other possibles. TECH291 \blue{CEF291/CVC6} kc8zpj |

Crackshot Tech 291 is correct about the use of an swr meter designed for 2 meter use.One used for hf wont give you an accurate reading of swr on your antenna. Its best to listen to the voice of experience. Bob CEF451 |

Crackshot, you are not doing the cutting right. the higher in frequency you go the shorter the antenna. if you are at 1.5:1 on 148mhz and 1.8:1 on 146mhz, and you don't have a dip in between, you should be adding to the length. 73, Slugo4449 |
