I have HM-98S mic on my ic-2100h radio, and I also had the same problem. I open the mic and saw that the ptt arm is attached to a plastic lever that in turn pushes a 60 or 90 deg lever down to a very small round metal disc in a round recessed slot. when this lever pushes the center of this disc it folds in and touches 2 very small contact points that keys up the unit. what happens is that disc wares out or the return spring is damaged or maybe one of the 2 levers are damaged. What was wrong with mine was the spring needed to be readjusted and the small round disc needed to be slightly tweaked. Its a pain in the butt to repair because the parts are so very small. I think it would be easer to just buy another mic. right now on those auction sites I saw 3 mics for sale. hope this helps good luck |

Gosh, I'm in hopes that my microphone on my IC-2100H keeps working, from what I understand these microphones new are not cheap. If one does quit working the best way to go is a new one. |

There is also a mod for the ic-2100h. Seems that there is a problem with grounding inside the radio and you will eventually here popping noises on your receive and on transmit. Your deviation also drops off. The fix is to add star washers on the screws that hold the circut board in place on the metal case. To give it a better ground there are also a couple of places to add sheet metal screws. Do a search for this mod on the internet. I think there were also photos to show where to put the sheet metal screws There was a big difference on receive and on transmit when I did the mod. Marty KG6QKJ |
