Okay, now that my Stryker has a non-switchable Top Gun Modulator and Speech Processor in it, it will key less than 1 watt and swing to 58 watts PEP on a Bird. I can also turn up the DK to 10 watts and swing 58. My question: can a Texas Star 500 with 4 2879's (or equivalent, i.e: Davemade, East Coast Products, X-Force, etc) take a 10 watt key and 58 watts PEP or will this be overdriving it? Please don't reply with a token link to Texas Star's specifications website. I want a real world answer, kapish? |

Also, there is a local where I live who is selling a Palomar HD450. I am assuming that it is 4 X SD1446. What is the most PEP and DK input that this amp can take? My guess is under 4 DK and 40 PEP? In other words, is my Stryker too much radio for this amp? Remember, there is no way to get less than 58 watts PEP from my Stryker now no matter what the DK. |

I would highly recommend to keep the DK 4 watts or less to presserve the life of it. |

Ok, so with the 4 x SD1446, I can DK say 2 or 3 and swing 58? I am thinking that 58 watts is a bit too much for this amp. Anyone else? |

My S9 would DK 1.5 watts and swing to 52. I ran a Palomar Elite 450HD for 2 years with no problems at all. Only reason I am not still running it....I have something NEW!!! I sold the Palomar to a friend, and he is running it with his S9. The Texas Star would also work well. |

im4jc.....turm mic gain OFF & vary radio dead key as low as it will go. key ANY 4 x 2879 amp(texas star, dave, x, etc) & turn up radio power til amp dead keys 200 or so. THEN turn MIC GAIN up til you see about 500 PEP swing out of a TS, or 750 PEP swing out of a dave or X & you'll be good . after you play for a while & check for HEAT, you may be able to advance radio power til amp keys 250, & TS swing to a bit over 500. dave/x will probably swing 800 PEP. you should really adjust mic gain for max swing in RMS mode, then go no higher. wherever PEP ends up, so be it. you may be able to get it to show more PEP, but it will only be bleedover, harmonics & other trash. texas star will live with about 40 PEP input, the dave & x straight 4 pill will easily live with whatever your stryker can throw at it, PEP-wise. i would say 58 PEP is TOO much for any 1446 amp. |

Rogee-oh big daddy. I was waiting for your input, Pat. That settles it. I will hold out for a Davemade, East Coast, X-Force or Magnaforce that is a straight 4 x 2879. I'm hoping to find a hard-up truck driver that needs fuel money, but most truckers that aren't running cheapo Palomar knock-offs are running the Texas Star flavor. I was hoping it wouldn't resort to this, but I may have to pop for a new M400. |
