Can anyone advise how many amps the S6 or S9 radios pull?

I am trying to put together a base station setup for a friend and want to be sure I get a power supply with enough "juice".

Thanks everyone!

747,

Depending on which MODEL (POWER) of S-6 or S-9 you have CLICK BELOW for a guide of suggested power supplies to use.

WHICH POWER SUPPLY DO YOU NEED?

Or check out the REVIEW's on both the S-6 and S-9 in the: Subscriber (Preview
» Product Reviews
Area of the Copper Forum for the exact amp draw of both radio's.

Hope this help's,

Lon,

I know there may be some variations, but, I have a Yaesu FT-7800 FM VHF/UHF Mobile that puts out 50 watts on VHF and 40 watts on UHF, and draws only 9 amps! I am able to run it off of a 10 amp power supply and get every drop of wattage out of it that I should...

Is the extra 2 amps on this chart for "surge" ?

Thanks for helping me understand!

747, For the standard 50 watt S-6 or S-9 a 12 amp power supply would get the job done. You don't want to get the power supply thats just enough amps. That way its life is longer cause its not working as hard all the time. I have a 12 amp pyramid power supply that I can run my Connex 4800 on, although 5 to 7 amps might get the job done. For most everything I run the Pyramid PS-52KX. Its 40 amps continous and 52 amps surge.

I would tell your friend to get the biggest power supply he can afford. That way you know you have enough and someday he might get that bigger S-9 and he will be ready!
