A buddy of mine has an old HW-101 and is Running it with a longwire and Antenna tuner. he's still having problems with his match. Been doing a little online "research" and came across a 80m dipole for restricted space on a QRP site. It calls for a coil in the middle of each 1/2 of the radiators. Went to another site to re calculate the coil info for heavier gauge wire for the proper inductance.

would it be worth building over the performance of the longwire??

would only be about 50 feet long for 80 meters :-)

The answer is yes a 50 foot long loaded dipole works just fine.

I have a DX-CC dipole it is 85 foot long works on 75, 40, 20 15 meters VERY WELL ........ without a tuner .....
