I'd suggest you try either an external speaker or a set of known working headphones. If you still don't have any sound then I'd suggest you try to the ole shooting in the dark method. Remove the cover on the solder side, make sure you have no rings on, and lay your hand on the solder side of the board near the audio chip. If it's working you'll hear a humming or "motor boating" sound. That will rule out whether or not it's working. If not, you can probably pick it up from Copper or the other usual sources. Now assuming the audio chip is good and you try the external and still have no sound, then you have a resistor or capacitor in the output section (near the external speaker jack) that's gone bad. I've seen this several times. A quick fix if you can't find it (and an easy way to add talkback to radios without it) is to add a resistor across the PA jack and external jack. I'm not familiar with a 55 but I assume it has a PA function. Does the PA function work? Seen a pile of Cobra radios that this happens to. It's a simple little part gone part... |

Too much Pepsi or something...a simple little part gone bad...it was late I think when I posted that. You're welcome though, hope you figure it out. |
