Hello Jessie, I have never owned a KLV1000 or 1000P. Was planning to buy one so I did a lot of research on them. If it was me I would totally avoid the 300P as a driver and be very careful monitoring the output of the 203 as a driver. I believe 100 watts is the limit and I think the 203 does more on SSB than 100 watts PEP. I have discovered in my experiences with amps that it really does not take as much drive as you think or the manufacture suggests to get the amp to perform well. Again I have never owned a KLV1000P but I would definatley not apply more than 100 watts PEP into it. Hope I could help a bit. |

Well , right now I,m driving it barefoot , 25 DK & 100 swing . only getting 200 DK out with 500 pep . Most have told me i,m under driving it . I,m told it needs 45 to 60 DK and 150 swing into it . |

150 swing will blow it up. It's unlikely to actually get 1KW of clean power out of it, there just ain't enough sweep tubes in it Honestly the extra couple hundred watts over the mark where you are now won't make a difference on the other end, just make the needle swing farther in your house. 500W out of it will keep the transmitted signal quite clean and keep you from having to buy tubes too often........ I'd roll it like you are instead of driving it with a class C amp. chad |

most sweep tubes should be run so that you get about 60 watts PEP out of each tube. you can get more than that out of them, but the life starts to shorten. i would say that the people that are telling you that you are underdriving it are victims of the cheap meter syndrome. they tend to get very forgiving toward the high end of the wattage scale. matt |

And there's 4 tubes in it.... Just do the math At which point longevity at high power is dependent soley on duty cycle. Remember that they are sweep tubes intended for use in TV's, they are intended for a 100% duty cycle. Chad |

Hey Jessie, I would run it exactly how your doing it now. 25 deadkey and 100 swing. Thats the deadkey to swing ratio you want and no other setting is going to sound as good. Its possible the tubes have wear from normal use. I have heard of higher wattages with the same input from other KLV1000P owners. Have you tried other watt meters. So many things can cause inaccurate watt readings. Jumper lengths and high swr , an amp putting out a harmonic reflected back by the antenna can be a pain in the rear also. Before you go and put more input in the amp try a few different setup changes first like different jumper lengths and a good low pass filter at the amp output. Try a different meter. Also consider tube replacement. I hear that a matched set of the Russian Selaveta tubes instead of the EL 519 tubes make a big wattage improvement and last a lot longer. Whatever you do just don't sacrifice audio qaulity for wattage. I like to be smarter than the average cber! Believe me! In my town we have a major shortage of knowlegeable cbers! |

I learned the hard way years ago by blowing up some tube and transistor amps. Not to mention antennas that wouldn't take the wattage. My friend repairs amps, his #1 gripe is, people just push these things to hard! |

Thanks fellows , I,m not trying to get alot of power out of it , in fact when I get it set right I,ll probably just run it on low . I just want to feed it right .As for the tubes only being good for 60 watts pep each , 240 watts pep doesn,t sound in the ballpark for a klv1000 . Tech 808 in his review of the none P was getting dk of I think about 350 |

just something to read?? ive got the 4 tube klv, had it for about 5 years, put the selvitas in when first bought, use a 2995dx to drive amp, dk on radio is 11 watts, gives me about 375 dk on amp, i audio mine to tune on high and it tunes up to about 1500 on a 43p bird!! both are still in use and have had no problems with either piece!! the radio swings to about 150 with normal talking and amp does about a 1000 to 1200 on that normal use!! this is on an i max, a flat 4, and a jo gunn 6 star beam.. swr's are at a 1 to 1 were things are used!! in the past, ive had and used all of klv's base amps!! they seem to work good enough taht ive sold all except my 4 tuber witch ill keep!! ok, off my soap box, but just one persons use of said amps.. thehobo 269150 am monitor ch |
