Has anyone ever owned a Realistic TRC 485?I just got one given to me with next to no output. i can see a little movement on a watt meter , very little, receives fine on all modes and I can hear my signal on another receiver, i have also made a few contacts locally but the signal reports are low but audio is fine.I have checked the driver and final they are good, also tried adjusting the various pots alc am power etc to no avail.Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem with this radio or one like it Tnx Bob CEF451/VE1CZ |

it could just be out of alignment, from the last owner turning some of the TX coils in the radio. find the service manual, or whatever info you can find, and give the transmit section an alignment. how did you check the driver and final? the best way to find out if they are working right is to re-bias them to factory specs. if you cant get them up to specs. they are probably bad. good luck, matt |

Tnx KID, i checked the final and driver using a micronta transistor checker, the gain on the final and driver show the same as per the specs i found on the internet.the controls have not been messed with as I know the previous owner,i have tried some adjustments in that area with no difference. The amount of power showing seems like the only thing putting out any power is the pre driver but i havent checked that yet on the transistor checker, maybe my checker is not working properly but i have checked other 2sc2166 s and 2sc1969 s that i know are ok and the reading are the same. This ones sure got me stumped , i would really like to get this going again, nice little rig with great mod possibilites. yeah, i think they can go from like 25.??? to 28.???, which is really rare for a rad shak radio! if the driver and final seem good, but it seems that only the pre driver is working, then its leading me towards the voltage going to the final and driver. if the pre-driver is working, maybe it gets its voltage from a different source and that could narrow down the voltage source that is not doing its thing. does that make sense? sometimes i cant tell.LOL matt |
