Will this work? What should the deadkey be from the driving amp? How much swing will the 1600 safely handle? The Palomar is a 4-1446 type box with low-med-high and auto sideband delay. Radio is a Magnum S9. |

The Palomar is a little to much unless you can get the mumbers you need on its low setting. The 8 pill Texas Star is designed for 100 to 150 swing and around 25 to 30 deadkey! The V-Mod is designed for and what you should drive the 1600 with. Ya run into a problem now with the S-9. Bummer! Get one of them 80 watt S-9's! Maybe even the 175 watt S-9 when it comes out. |

CLICK BELOW Texas Star Amplifier Specifications Or 100W Recommended INPUT which is why many use the MOD V or MOD V PLUS for Input Drive Power when using lower powered radio's. Hope this Help's, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 |

To clarify....I have the S9 and the Palomar already in the truck, and just got the 1600 on Thursday. It is now installed and wired for power, and I am trying to learn what it will handle as far as drive. I have not powered it up or keyed into it yet. I see on the above Texas Star link that 100watts in gives 1200 out, This I asume is swing as it is listed under the catagory of "Approx out with 20 watts in". The S9 with the Palomar on low keys about 75 watts and swings to 225. This is with the mic gain at 3:00 and the rf power variable on the radio set to a 3 watt dk and a swing to about 45. Sorry about all the questions, but I have never had a 2 amp setup, and am trying to learn/figure it out. |

Brian! 75 watt deadkey and 225 watt swing will SMOKE the Texas Star 1600! I know its a drag put your in a bit of a pickle my friend. Your options are to buy a radio capable of 100 watts of swing to drive the 1600 or Buy a low power radio, buy a Texas Star Mod-V, match those to drive the 1600 or last resort, retune the S-9 for MAX output deadkey and swing and drive the 1600 the best you can with it. Whatever you do, don't put 75 watts deadkey into the 1600! 1600 will not like that! |

capt205....turn the S9 down even more. back down the rf power on the S9 til the palomar dead keys 30 watts. then back off on the mic gain til the palomar swings less then 150 watts. the dx1600 should then key around 300 & swing 1000+. you may (or may not) have to try the topgun on or off to get everything to sound good at various distances. don't worry too much about 'backing down the audio' when turning back on the mic gain. the 1000+ PEP will make up for any perceived loss of audio. |

Can you do it? Sure. Will it last long? Depends. Is there an opps factor? Sure is. Can one opps be expensive? You bet. |
