ok i can adjust the local sideband signals buy turning vr 2 but anyone over 6 or 7 miles on sideband i can turn VR 2 all the way up and it wont bring there signals up for some reason.not even the 2 guys i talk to about 15 miles away that give me an 8 for a signal on my YAESU and my Connex 4800.how can i bring in the sideband signals in on the meter that are over 7 miles is there a way?I notice a screw with tape over it on the back on the meter should i turn this or no? |

So if I understand correctly what your saying is the "S" meter does not work on SSB but OK on AM? If it works ok on AM then I suppose you could rule out the meter itself. Maybe try cleaning VR2. If you have a digital Volt/ohm meter you could put it across the terminals on the meter in the lowest ohm range. Watch to see if it moves with incomming signals. If not then come off VR2 with the ohm meter and try to notice a reading with RX. If you have a signal at the VR but not at the meter then you'll have to start tracing from VR to meter to find the break. Hope this helps...thats how my mechanical mind works and likely how I'd go about troubleshooting it. Good luck! Hank |

The Galaxy 959 I used to own did the very same thing. Not sure if the mods caused it or not. I just figured it was a lazy needle. |

No the scale works on am and sideband but this is really odd.The 2 guys I talk to everynight to the north of me dont move my meter on sideband now at all.And I turned vr 2 up all the way thats for the sideband meter.BUT THE GUYS TO THE SOUTH of me all give me the same signal this is really strange.but theres one guy that i talk to in new york and he gives me 3 signal on all my radios i have 7 and the 99 its a zero.now i know why they say this radio is only good for AM...since i talk on sideband all the time i guess ill just sell it its brand new too. |

Tech 291....oops your right. Been a while...YES..we're reading amperage here....not resistance...meant to say "lowest A range" Freebird..I sent my last message before your 3rd message. You have a strange situation for sure. I'm no tech but maybe a RX alignment is in order? I know your 99 has a freq counter but have you tryed to clarify your RX anyway? I'll keep thinking about this but seems an alignment could be a solution. In AM mode all signals match other radios right down to the S unit? Hmmmmmm BTW....howdy Ratster.... good to see your little red eyed mutant rat again. Hope your feeling well. Hank |

Moderator Note:You could try selling it at a near by Hamfest. Hope this helps |
