--Hi, all. I know that if I order an RCI 2970DX from Copper Electronics and request their "Expand, align and tune", it will come modded from 24-32Mhz. However, I am trying to save my friend some money. If I order this radio and do not request the $30 "Expand, align and tune", will the radio still come with the "E module" expansion chip somewhere in the box? If not, why would RCI sell a radio that someone could not modify (I mean at least without having to pay an extra $30 to buy the expansion module chip?) --I have always heard that RCI included a jumper with the older models, and it was usually in the box near the mic. clip. Why do they not do this now?? He is wanting this for use in his house, and I was the one that suggested that he purchase an RCI 2970DX. Thanks. |

Hey Mayor! Its a good ideal to let COPPER do it cause if YOU open it up then most likely your gonna VOID the warranty on it! With all due respect to you and your friend. An RCI 2970DX is an exspensive and top of the line radio. The warranty is very important and for the cost of the radio itself the 30 dollars is a small price to pay to know a pro worked on it. Just my 2 cents worth of opinion. |

If you order the radio and request the "Expand, Align and Tune" Option, when you place your order it will come with the "E module" installed. Otherwise the E-module WILL BE INCLUDED with the radio at NO Extra Charge. Lon ~ Tech808 ~ N9CEF CEF#808 ~ CEF HAM#33 ~ CVC#002 Tech808@copperelectronics.com

Where can a person get the echip to expand the RCI 2970 DX if they have a radio that doesn't already have it? one more thing, how much would a person expect to pay for the echip for the 2970DX? |

Check to see if your RCI2970DX is expandable. Ham radio dealers sold these radios also at one time and these radios were specially made to be sold by ham radio dealers and were not frequency expandable. The same was true of the RCI2950DX radios. Some people found this out the hard way. Make sure before buying the module that there is a proper connection on the back of the front panel to plug it on to. |
