hi all, just wanding if anybody knows how to
add a varable watt control to a 148glt.
i know it can be done, but i need info on how
to do it. it is an old radio (about 15 years)
i want to hook up a kicker box, and heard that
not to put no more than one watt in to it.
thanks for any help.

remove VR10-AM power control, & replace it with an externally mounted pot, put it on the squelch control, get a dual pot & replace the squelch pot with it-1 for the squelch 1 for the power, remove the brt/dim or hi/lo tone switch & put a pot there, etc etc....quite a few ways to do it!

yep i prefer putting a dual control pot in the rf gain spot with the RX on the big ring/deadkey power on the small ring

I use the swr calibrate pot. Take the two wires not to ground, solder a 4.7k resistor between the two and insulate.
Run wires from where vr10 was removed to the calibrate pot.
You get variable power and the swr calibrate funciton still works for checking your swr.
