I am planning to mount my muiti band antenna on the leg of my tower via a bracket to stand it off a bit. What is the proper procedure to doing so. Does anyone have some pics that they could share of different designs. I would be more than happy to make this device. It will need to hold a very small "mast" to attach the antenna to. It's not going to have a high wind loading, it's just a fiberglass vertical as of the current thoughts. Thanks! Chad |

Chad, In the past I have used two angle brackets to hold teh vertical mast away from the tower leg. Generally I have made them at least 1/2 wave at the frequency of the antenna (unless i was looking for a directional effect). Space the brackets so that you have enough mast above the top one to clamp the antenna to. Hope this helps a little. |

I can see it but not in detail, Maybe I can talk him into sending me a hi-res version so I can zoom in on it I saw some neet ones on google. I need to keep it fairly light weight as it's a tilt-over and I don't wnat to make it too tough Chad |

first, i have never done, nor seen up close, the "proper" way to do this; so im just offering this up for ideas' sake. feel free to tell me it wont work and why. you can leave out the "duh". LOL chad, hold two shelf brackets like they sell at home depot. (the white metal ones with the 45* kick) hold them like they were dowsing rods and let the outward ends touch. if that were all one piece with a round piece of tubing welded vertically where the ends touch, with set screws on it, and U-bolts were used along the back side to mount to the tower legs (2). wouldnt that work? i dont mean to actually use the shelf brackets. thats just to visuallize. but you could weld something together out of scrap pretty easily i bet. just an idea, whaddaya think? matt |

Chad, Go the the Pictures Area and Click on: Members Pictures » Tech808 You will see my Anttron 2/6 on the side of 1 of my tower's. And you will see 2 different stand off's I made for different ham antenna's to mount under my beams. One using a Single piece of 2" channel with the Anttron 2/6 antenna on it and the other bracket using 2 pieces of 2" channel that I had another antenna on. Hope this help's, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 |

KV, I'll probably end up using 2 chucks of aluminum channel one above the other. Your method would have excellent strength regarding up and down force or rotational force around the tower but where I live it counts to have torsional strength too, one above the other would provide that. That "mast" (attach point) sees a lot of torque freom the wind gusts we get here. Your input is always appreciated, I even went out to the garage and got angle brackets to visualize it. Now if I stacked that contraption above another and attached to that then it would be stronger than the tower! Chad |

very ture, i can see that the wind would want to twist the round tubing off. (i bet it would hold if i built it)LOL J/K!!! sounds like you've got the plan in hand, so to speak. good luck, and i hope pics will be forthcoming, matt |

could go the cheap and simple route, get a piece of 1" condiut or 1 !/4" and bend it into a lazy "Z"(couple of 45s'in different direction on opposing ends. worm gear clamp it to the tower leg, makins sure that you have about 2 ft. of distance away from the tower leg. also be sure that the part that will attach to the tower is long enough that it will not kick ot tilt over when the wind blows on it. the longer the better. or if you are so inclined use 1' - 2" angle iron and cut , bend and weld , then clamp it to the leg using worm gear clamps. |

It's a done deal. I used two 4' sections of square tube, they are bolted to the tower with UBolts in 2 places each, (on 2 legs) then a mast is U-Bolted to the two peices of channel sticking out. So far, so good, it's VERY solid. I should post up some pics Chad CEF 433 HAM 212 not an ego thing, just keepin' the mods happy
