So I'm narrowing down my radio choices. The one I am currently looking at has 2M/440 on 1 output and HF/6M on another. To reduce clutter on the tower I had thought of using a 2M/440 on one leg, the scanner antenna on another and using the Imax2K on 6M FM with a tuner for the time being. This would mean that the only eminent antenna I would need to add would be a loop for 6M SSB.

How poorly (well) would the Imax work on 6M with an antenna tuner. Is there a formula to calculate this loss? Has anyone tried it? This arrangement would allow me all of my privlidges with only 3 transmitting antennas and one tower (we ain't growing an antenna pharm at casa-de-chad (via a memo from the wife))

Sorry, Chad. The Imax 2000 will not work worth anything on 6 meters, tuner or not.

The one problem wiht the Jetstream is that the particular radio that is getting higher on the list of possibles has the 2M/440 on one output and the 6M on the HF output, this immedately causes need for an antenna switch which I was trying to avoid for the time being. I think i'd be better off just buying a dedicated 6M antenna and a 2/440 at this point. Bummer :-(

Chad,

A627013S 6 Meter/2Meter/70CM

Cushcraft's newest multiband directional yagi is designed to provide hobbyists who have limited tower or mast space with directional antenna performance on three of the most popular bands. The A627013S combines 6 meters, 2 meter and 70 centimeters on one boom. Since the three antennas were designed to share a common boom, the A627013S solves the often encountered problem of degraded antenna performance due to inadequate spacing when using separates.

Model A627013S
3dB Beamwidth, Degrees E-Plane 48.5,48.5

You could go with a discone. They have 0 gain, but they do have exceptional bandwidth. You can transmit on any frequency from 2m-23cm, and if you get one with a tunable whip, they'll do 6m too. It'll also make a cool back up scanner antenna.

I've often wondered why noone markets a discone that'll do 12m and up. It wouldn't be much larger than a CB antenna, and it would be outstanding for scanning. No gain, but great bandwidth.

I received my Scantenna yesterday :-) It should be up by next Saturday!

Starface, as I had said earlier, the radio has a seperate output for 6M/HF. I do not want to do switches for now for fear of tearing up a kilobuck radio :-) As I get more advanced I'll consider. For now a 2/440 will get me going and worry about HF/6M later! BUT ALL of the antenna recommendations have been noted and nicely recorded. Why don't they make the 6M band selectable on a menu as to which output is used? Hmmmmm.
